Made in McPherson County, Nebraska

Grace Snyder’s Hexagon Mosaic was included in an elite list of 100 best American quilts of the 20th Century as selected by 29 quilt experts. The original design was created by Albert Small of Illinois and included 63,450 pieces. Intrigued by the design, which she saw in a magazine article in the late 1930s, Snyder asked Small to send her a tiny templet, which she used to hand-stitch 58,640 pieces together into a bed-sized quilt.

Snyder’s work was previously featured in the exhibition Grace Snyder: A Life in Extraordinary Stitches, curated by former IQM Collections Manager Janet Price. She is also the subject of the first module of the website Stories of Nebraska Quilters
