Wild Goose Chase
Wild Goose Chase
For March's Quilt of the Month, we are sharing a beautiful quilt currently on display as part of "Whimsy II: Quilts of a Feather."
"Wild Goose Chase" was made by Mary Maxtion between 1980 and 1995. Here we see a wild goose chase pattern with triangles alternating throughout with bold colors on display.
Born in 1924, Maxtion was taught to quilt by her mother. In the 1980s and 1990s, Robert and Helen Cargo began collecting Maxtion's quilts alongside many other Black quiltmakers primarily from Alabama. This quilt came to the International Quilt Museum in 2000 as part of the Robert and Helen Cargo Collection.
See "Whimsy II: Quilts of a Feather" in both the Gottsch and Von Seggern galleries through July 19. For those unable to visit the museum in person, a virtual gallery is available on our website.
