IQM announces new exhibition from painter, tattoo artist Sara Schellenberg

May 21, 2025

The International Quilt Museum at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (IQM) introduced its newest exhibition this week featuring the works of painter and tattoo artist Sara Schellenberg.

“Sara Schellenberg: Within Me there is a Pinwheel” is now showing in the IQM’s Beaver Gallery through Sept. 13. Schellenberg will also give a free gallery talk to the public about the exhibition on June 6 as part of the IQM’s First Friday programming.

Schellenberg’s paintings explore their commonalities with quiltmaking while reflecting domestic spaces, religious influence and family dynamics. With elements of abstraction, still life and figuration, these paintings also engage with the visual language of quilts.

Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Schellenberg earned a BFA in painting from the University of Arkansas. Schellenberg is currently a co-owner of Paper Doll Tattoo in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and has exhibited her work throughout the state.

Visit the IQM during our opening hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. The International Quilt Museum is located at 1523 N. 33rd Street in Lincoln, Nebraska.

General admission is $10 for adults, $6 for seniors, and $4 dollars for children between the ages of five and 18 years old. Children under the age of five get in free. UNL staff, students and faculty can access the museum for free with their NCard.
