Nancy Bavor Is Newest IQM Advisory Board Member

The International Quilt Museum is pleased to announce that Nancy Bavor of Los Altos, California, will be joining its International Advisory Board.

“Nancy has been a colleague and friend for many years. Her knowledge of textiles and quilting, combined with her experience in museum exhibitions and management embodies the spirit of excellence. We are honored to have Nancy join our board and work with her in this new capacity,” said Leslie Levy, Ardis and Robert James Executive Director. 

Nancy Bavor holds a Bachelor’s degree in art history from Northwestern University and a Master’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the History of Textiles/Quilt Studies emphasis. Her Master’s thesis explores the origins and development of the art quilt in California.  Nancy joined the staff of the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles in 2013, serving as Curator of Collections and Exhibits Coordinator, and as Director from 2017-2021. In 2018, she co-authored the book Art Quilts Unfolding: 50 Years of Innovation and co-curated the accompanying exhibition Layered & Stitched: Fifty Years of Innovative Art, that will be on view at the International Quilt Museum from May 1 - December 31, 2023. Nancy has served on the boards of Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA) and the Quilt Alliance and is currently a board member of the American Quilt Study Group.

The museum has asked Nancy to serve a three-year term on its board. Among their responsibilities, International Quilt Museum board members serve as advocates and provide suggestions and guidance to help the museum best achieve its mission and goals.
