Tuesday Talk: I Make Vintage

Tuesday Talk: I Make Vintage
The September 27, 2022 Tuesday Talk, “I Make Vintage,” will be presented by Janet Phillips, beginning at 12:00PM. Janet, who has long been drawn towards the 1930s style of quilts, will share stories of her ‘new-vintage’ quilts.
Janet has been a quilter for 41 years, making her first quilt, a Grandmother's Flower Garden, in 1981. Growing up in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of a perfectionist seamstress, she started making her own clothes by the age of 10 on her mother's Singer 301. It was the only machine her mother ever had and Janet still uses it today, alongside her Singer Featherweight.
Janet moved to Nebraska in 1980, where it seemed all her new friends were quilters. She was hooked. No more garment making for her. From the beginning, Janet was drawn towards the 1930s style of quilts. Wanting to make hers authentic, she started collecting vintage 30s fabrics through auctions, quilt show merchants, antique stores and garage sales.
Janet’s quilts have been published in Quilter's Newsletter Magazine and Great American Quilts. She also produced a line of quilt patterns in the 1990s. Sharing her passion through teaching classes was always enjoyable. Many of her quilts have hung in quilt shows. Yes, it is always exciting to see your quilt wearing a blue ribbon, but the viewers of those quilts never get to learn the “stories” behind their making, and that is the BEST part! Janet is looking forward to sharing her “new-vintage” quilts and their unique stories with you.
